Back from my holiday hiatus! What have you all been up to over the holiday?
As for myself, I’ve spent mine remarkably computer-free, with the exception of wasting some glorious hours of free time on Kingdom of Loathing (for the record, I’m currently a level 6 Accordion Thief). If the xbox counts as a computer, Chris and I have spent a lot of holiday time beating the snot out of orcs, wargs, and uruk-hai on Lord of the Rings: The Third Age together.
We’ve both been off work since the end-of-day Friday before Christmas. Ten beautiful, unstructured, full-of-goofing-off days have now come to an end. Tomorrow, the adults go back to work, and the kids go back to Jeffy’s and school. I’m not dreading it, but it has been a really wonderful holiday. I consider it my sabbath week for the year; a week of resting, savoring, being together and not-doing. It’s amazing what work God can get done when we stop our busyness and get out of His way. But that’s a lengthy other post.
There were a few times when the strain of not-working reared its ugly head, my inner critic laying into me full-blast. But mostly, it’s been a genuine rest, and I feel ready to get back to doing (with a renewed spirit) tomorrow.
The kids had a great holiday, too, I think. Both got new bikes (Josh’s was a blue 20″ to replace the red one he’s long outgrown and Maddie’s was a Barbie big wheel) and a number of other highly desired items.
We had family get-togethers with my dad and sisters’ families, Chris’ extended family, and my extended family.
All in all, it was the best holiday season in a long, long time around here. Hope everyone else’s was great, as well.
