A Busy February

The New/Old Job

This is the end of the second week of my new (old) job.  It’s funny what a difference a year and a half can make, both in an individual and an organization. All the things I liked about OOHology are still there: the fun attitude, the creative work environment, the “get it done” philosophy.  But the company has undeniably matured and become more well-rounded.

Company culture is a weird and subtle thing. If it’s not right, it becomes like a pair of jeans that aren’t cut quite right for your body. They may look cool, and may seem like a good fit at first, but you can’t ever get comfortable. You keep tugging at those little irritations, those little areas of poor fit, until at the end of every day, all you can think about is “I have to get out of these!”

People have asked me why I left my previous job, and why I decided to go back to this company. I think it mostly boils down to culture and fit. Which is all I plan to say about it.

More from The Clockwork Republics

TCR_thumbs_galleryOn the writing end of things, 2014 is going pretty well. In January, I completed another Clockwork Republics story for  an upcoming 3 Fates Press anthology of steampunk and cyberpunk stories. This one is entitled “Spinning Secrets” and is based on Rumpelstiltskin. It was tremendous fun, and introduces The Boyle Society, which is sort of my “steampunk Agents of SHIELD.”

I’ll be sure and let everyone know when the anthology comes out.

As I write that, I realize I have been remiss. The other two books in The Clockwork Republics series, Blowhard and Big Teeth, have been re-released with 3 Fates. Big Teeth just relaunched this week! I was a little distracted by other issues to give these releases the attention they deserve.

Both books have received a thorough professional edit, have been expanded by 2,000-3,000 words, and have been formatted for paperback! This is the first time either of these stories has been available in print. If you haven’t read them before, or prefer print to eBook, this might be a fabulous time to check them out.

Other items of note:

The third book in The Clockwork Republics, Mirrors and Magic, is in the final stages of editing. It should be re-released some time this spring.

Next weekend, on March 1, 2014, will be Books N Brew, a great event at Big Woods Brewery in Nashville, Indiana. Meet local authors from several small presses (including me!) and sample some delicious craft beers!

Do you listen to audiobooks? I just submitted the audiobook version of Big Teeth to for review, which I recorded and produced myself. When it is approved, it’ll be available on Audible, Amazon and iTunes.

Thanks! 🙂 I felt good about the decision, but you just never know how things are going to work out till you jump in.
